Gin

Gin is a distilled alcoholic beverage where the flavour is dominated by juniper. The legal minimum concentration is 37.5% alcohol according to the European Union, while in the USA it is 40%.

There are several types of gin. The most popular of these are "Distilled Gin" and "London Dry Gin". What is the difference between them? All London Dry's are Distilled Gins, but not all Distilled Gins are London Dry's. Both are the product of double distillation. Simply put, this is when distillers start with an agricultural distillate with an alcohol content of at least 96% - this is a very high level of purity making it virtually neutral in taste. This spirit is then re-distilled with the addition of aromatics/botanicals, the main ingredient of which is, of course, juniper cones.
