Paragon Rue Berry

Ruta, or actually Ruta chalepensis, is grown in tropical Africa, more specifically in Ethiopia, where it is used as an herb or medicinal plant. The leaves have a strongly aromatic and sweet fragrance, while the berries of the ruta are characterised by a stronger and sharper flavour. Kuti, an infusion of coffee leaves, is traditionally flavoured with fresh Ruta chalepensis leaves, and some local cheeses are made using these leaves to add flavour and aroma to milk. Ruta berries are used in a famous Ethiopian spice blend called berbere.
